I’ve done 3 runs since last time. I’d like to do more, but I’m forced to do boring stuff like “go to class” and “sleep” and “injure my leg.”
The first run was on October 21st. My current plan is to run the area above Hoskin Avenue from left to right, so I started by doing the area underneath UTS. This place is mainly houses. There are quite a few roads across the middle of the blocks so cars can access the parking on the inside. These make it difficult to run the paths optimally, and so I had to do quite a bit of backtracking to get a bit of path that I missed.
On the way I noticed this island of pavement in the street that I haven’t seen anywhere else in Toronto.
If I had to guess, I’d say that its purpose is to slow cars down, and that it’s detached from the sidewalk so that bikes can pass. I wish the city used tiled streets more often to slow down traffic. I’ve only seen them used in one place, at the entrance to King’s College Circle, but they look way nicer than this protrusion and feel like a more permanent solution.
Here’s what the whole run looks like:
The next run was on October 26. I planned on completing the set of blocks immediately to the right of the ones I had just completed, but I started getting some pain in my legs so I stopped after doing Robarts. I think I injured my legs when I was doing some running (unrelated to RASPUTIN) that Monday with a backpack on. (I was searching for a hat and it was urgent (The Hat))
The last run was on November 2. The goal was to run this:
This one went very well, it is the longest run in RASPUTIN so far clocking in at 6.13 km according to Google Earth. The first half was more of the same, running behind/between people’s houses. The second half involved running past some quirks of architecture. First we have this small house sandwiched between two large modern buildings.
Next this row of windows enbedded in a lawn that look down on a concrete hallway lit by fluorescent lights.
And last but most definitely least, the Goldring Centre’s stairways to nowhere.
There are 14 of these endurance testers around the building, and I had the fortune to meet them right at the end of the run. The GPS isn’t accurate enough for you to determine that I ran down all of these, but trust me, I did.
The cumulative graph of runs is already looking fairly 2D, I’m looking forward to seeing it when I’m finally done.
